Today, we golf.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the realm of outdoor sports like skiing, climbing and mountain biking, the noble game of golf gets no respect. Some may rank it as low as, say, curling and bowling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s break it down and crack this unfair bias once and for all. Even the venerable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/03\/sports\/golf\/todays-golfers-work-out-like-serious-athletes.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\">Old Gray Lady<\/a> is celebrating the strength and fitness components of today\u2019s golf culture. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/03\/sports\/golf\/todays-golfers-work-out-like-serious-athletes.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\">New York Times\u2019 article<\/a> details the changing fitness regimes of top <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Professional Golfers Association\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Professional_Golfers_Association\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">PGA<\/a> pros and the traveling workout trailers that accompany the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact of the matter is that golf is a heck of a good time. Will it flood your system with endorphins? Possible\u2014when you make that sweet, elusive connection that sends the ball soaring straight and far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will it make you sweat? Heck yeah, it will!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professional golfers are undertaking rigorous fitness regimens, and those workouts require high-tech, active clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As all athletes know, that clothing requires proper treatment to get rid of odors and to increase longevity. (By comparison, the origins of biking can be traced back about 200 years.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On an average 18-hole course, you will walk approximately five miles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a 150-lb person carries their clubs for the duration of the 18-hole game, that person will burn approximately 1,000 calories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Caddyshack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/caddyshack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"rottentomatoes noopener\">Caddyshack<\/a> is indisputably one of the best sports movies of all time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Golf hones eye tracking and visual acuity. According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aoa.org\/x5337.xml\">American Optometric Association<\/a>, visual acuity is critical to performing well in most sports.
