Stay healthy and stay safe.

We are all currently affected by the global Coronavirus. At this unprecedented time, things can be worrying for everybody, but, despite the need for social distancing, you can still go outdoors to your nearest ‘green space’.

Right now, the natural world and environment we have is crucial. People still need some activity, fresh air and space – for both physical and mental wellbeing. Now, more than ever, we should make the most of our natural outdoor resources. The benefits to all of us are unending.

Recently announced, The National Trust are opening up their parks and gardens for FREE to people. This is an enormous opportunity to get out for a walk, soak up the beauty of spring and have some downtime, whilst safely keeping space around you.

We are advised not to travel unnecessarily, so try and discover something wonderful in your local area on foot, or drive just a short distance.

As long as you practise keeping a safe distance from others then there’s no reason to stop reaping the benefits of your outdoor activity. Park Runs may be cancelled, but perhaps you have a route near you that you know you can get out to in order to continue your training, albeit quieter footpaths or recreation grounds.

If you only have to drive a short distance, then perhaps take your bike out to some off-road locations, or have a hike around hills and woodlands. Do not take any unnecessary risks and always keep social distancing in mind. Scottish Mountain Rescue recommends we keep to familiar and safe areas – we need to enjoy our fresh air, without risking both ourselves and teams such as Mountain Rescue, at a time when services may be working with reduced cover.

Always be sure to let people know where you are going and follow any restrictions or guidelines which may be in place. If you feel unwell then it is recommended you stay indoors, to minimise any risk to others, as well as safeguarding yourself.

The benefits to getting fresh air are incredible, whether you have just a daily dog walk, or like to power up more energy with a run. Exercise and fresh air will help boost your immune system, relax your mind and body, plus give you that headspace to unwind and escape!

Nikwax is still here, working hard, to keep you safe and protected from the weather.
