Are you trying to figure out if you should use Softshell Proof or the TX.Direct? Here’s a simple breakdown to help you figure out if you have a softshell or hardshell jacket, and which Nikwax waterproofer you should use.
Softshell (Use Softshell Proof) | Hardshell (Use TX.Direct) |
Includes Spandex or Lycra on material (usually under 10% or small percentage) | Does not include Spandex or Lycra material |
You are able to stretch the material | No stretch in the material |
Non-taped seems | Generally have taped seams |
Heavier weight | Lighter weight |
Quiet | Louder, crinkly |
More flexible and comfortable to move in | Stiffer and less stretchy |
Nikwax recommends using the most applicable product for the type of material you have to provide optimal performance. Softshell Proof will move with the stretchy Softshell material, while TX.Direct will adhere best to a hardshell material.
Whenever you use a waterproofing product, always clean first. For both Softshell and Hardshell jackets, clean first with Tech Wash.
